With 90 acres of incredibly fertile land and an abundance of water we investigated a number of specialised cash crops that would supplement the type of businesses; (wine and alpacas, synonymous with a particular lifestyle) we are developing.

The cash crop would ideally be a fall planting with a harvest in mid summer thereby filling the low work periods associated with the vineyard and Alpaca breeding and show seasons.

Our local climate and soil characteristics are ideal for the growing of garlic. There is a shortage of quality garlic in the Eastern States with the majority of garlic imported from Western States and China. Our neighbours to the North are producers of excellent quality garlic and barely meet the demands of the local market. It would seem therefore that a demand exists for this product which is generally pest and disease free with the potential of yields that exceed planting by a ratio of between four and eight to one.
