I guess our story is fairly typical - living away from home, engaged in a high stress industry and seeking a more relaxed yet interesting lifestyle that would put food in our mouths.

We had been described as serial expatriates having lived in various places throughout the world and more recently France.

My husband, Warren was previously an Airline Pilot and and owned Alpacas and a Vineyard growing high quality Shiraz grapes in McLaren Vale, South Australia. More recently he and I were engaged in various aviation business activities in Europe, and the British Isles. Our last life was wholly immersed 24/7 in the time critical aviation industry.

I left my home in Kidron (Ohio’s Amish Country) about 20 years ago and had anticipated returning “one day” when the time was right.

In January 2004 my Grandfather, Wayne Buss passed away after 93 years of living a good and clean life having been engaged in farming all his life on the family property. On his passing the farm was placed into a family trust. Warren and I took the opportunity to take over the property and keep it in the family which will enable our children to be the fifth generation to be involved with this historic farm.

The relaxed lifestyle was what we had been seeking and after much analysis decided to concentrate our activities on breeding and marketing Alpacas and the establishment of a vineyard with a planned winery to follow. The Alpacas – they are truly delightful creatures with sensitive personalities – provide us with the secure investment we sought while promising high financial returns in the medium to long term.
